[PCMS 2023.5] Fada - Pinecone Variations

Fada returns with Pinecone Variations and that signature drumfunk, drum and bass sound with jazzy basslines and sparse paced out funk instruments. The focus is on the drummer and bass player. The drums have been overdriven through vintage distortions creating loud, resonating snares. Flute, Rhodes, guitar, or horn players wait patiently, counting the bars to drop a few notes. Short dialog excerpts keep the drummer going like we're witnessing an extended, live solo.

The funk theme is strongest in the tracks Start from the End and I'm Gonna Boogaloorize You. Controlled Freedom gets more into jazz featuring a heavily syncopated rhythm like the drummer is shifting time. The Same Old Song and Where All the Fevers Grow are backed by suspenseful soundscapes.

The vinyl edition also features a minute of breakbeat edits and Cut by 20 from Fada's 2014 EP previously on digital only.
